Mercutio and Tybalt

by Isabella Lightfoot

introduction

Mercutio and Tybalt are very different characters in the play. One one side there is Tybalt who is all about the action, quick to think and can be quite the hot head. On the other side there is Mercutio he is more mellow, funny and is always joking around even at his death! These are very contrasting people in a lot of different ways but they can also be quite similar at times.

Mercutio

Mercutio is Best friends with Romeo but he is not part of either the Capulet of Montague family. Throughout the play Mercutio is seen as a fun character who makes a lot of jokes he is also very loyal to Romeos family. Mercutio can be very quick to act and hates people who are always fashionable and think they’re better than everybody else (kind of like Tybalt). Mercutio is a fun loving funny and incredibly loyal all through the play until his unfortunate death.

how are they different?

As many people know Mercutio and Tybalt are not two peas in a pod. The biggest thing is how mercutio is a more comedic character whereas Tybalt is all about family honor and violence. As many people know Mercutio is the comic relief in Romeo and Juliet he is always Joking and messing about. Tybalt on the other hand has a very short temper and is not in for the jokes. Mercutio is the best person at railing Tybalt up and it works every time!!!

differences

in conclusion...

Tybalt and Mercutio may have some differnces but they also have big things in common. Mercutio is the comic relief, he is funny and light unlike the rest of the paly. Tybalt is a bit of a hot head always trying to fight the montegues but he is only trying to protect his families honor. Though they have their differencesthey are constantly trying to protect the other families honor and they both have the same unfortunate ending in act 3 scene 1.
