Foreign Accent Syndrome (SAE) is a relatively rare motor speech disorder in which the patient's pronunciation is perceived as foreign by listeners from the same speaking community. In most of the cases registered so far, the origin of SAE has been brain damage.

Treatment may include the use of accent reduction techniques with the help of a speech-language therapist. The person may also be taught how to move the lips or jaw in a more appropriate way during speech.
