In the first three chapters of the movie Inside Out, Riley has mostly happy memories. Riley loves to play around and have fun. She was running around the house, drawing on walls and doing many fun things. She was a happy kid growing up with very little bad memories. Riley lived in Minnesota for her childhood and made all her core memories there before she moved to San Francisco.
During Chapters 4-7 Riley feels sad and disappointed. Her new house in San Francisco isn't how she expected. All her stuff is gone and she thinks, the house is not for her. She tries to find something to eat but ends up finding a broccoli pizza which she hates. In her new house, Riley did have some good times. For example playing hockey with her parents and sliding down the railing but, she mostly had bad times in San Francisco. Riley had nightmares on her first night making her scared of her new house.
During Chapter 8 Riley starts at her new school in San Francisco. Almost everything that could go wrong went wrong. Riley started off by saying goodbye to her parents and playing around like a monkey. She left feeling happy and energetic for her first day. When she arrived in her new class, Riley was called upon by the teacher. As Fear said "I've almost finished with all the potential disasters ... getting called on by the teacher". Riley ends up crying at school and feels
very embarrased on her first day.
During Chapters 9 to 16 Riley feels very angry, upset and snappy because Joy isn't there to keep her happy. She has an argument with her parents where she ends up snapping "Just shut up!", soon after she is sent to her room. That night Riley talked to her best friend where they got into an argument, and lost their friendship. Riley felt annoyed at her best friend. The next day Riley's mother took her to try out for a new hockey team. Riley missed one shot and stormed out of the rink fuming with rage.
Between Chapters 17 and 25 Riley feels angry and rebellious. Anger comes up with an idea for Riley to run away back to Minnesota to make more core memories. Riley who was fed up and unhappy with her new house found a bus ticket to leave San Francisco. Riley was so determined to go to Minnesota that she stole her mothers credit card to pay for the ticket. Riley was so hell-bent on getting to Minnesota that she turned a blind eye on her parents that were trying to cheer her up. Even when Riley's mum tried ringing, Riley felt so committed that she declined the call twice.
During Chapters 26 and 27, Riley realizes that running away wasn't a good idea. Sadness made Riley feel bad for her parents making her come back home. When Riley realised what she had done, she felt stupid and regretful. She immediately called the bus driver to stop so she could get off. Riley then felt relief that she could get back home to her concerned parents. Once Riley got home she started to feel sad and remorsful and began crying. Her parents came up to her and hugged her tight saying they weren't mad at her. As her dad said "We're not mad... You know what, I miss Minnesota too."
During Chapter 28 Riley grows up and starts her new life in San Francisco. Her islands of personalities have expanded to many more than she origanally had. Her control panel has widened and all her core memories have a part of each emotion in them. Riley starts hockey with her new team the Foghorns. Riley's parents come to her game as her biggest fans, wearing face paint and wearing Fogorns tops. Riley feels happy in her new life playing hockey with her new team. Riley embraced the change and got rewarded.
