Rationing

In World War One, no one used to have any money so in towns, everyone got a few rationing tokens. Rationing tokens were little slips of paper and for each token you could buy one thing from the shop. This was used because if one person was richer than another they would get to choose what they wanted first and there would be none left for other people. Some people tried to steal rationing tokens to get more food but back then they didn't have the sort of food we have today. Sugar, sweets and jam was a real treat for people in War times.
