THE FAT BLACK WOMAN'S POEMS

About Author

CONTEXT

The author of this poem is Grace Nichols a Guyanese poet who moved to Britain in 1977.She published this poem around 1984 in Great Britain, found in the first section "The Fat Black Woman`s Poems.

Context

The poem was published in the early 1980s. During this period of time there were riots in London caused by racism and discrimination as well as the distrust of the police and authority.

The poem 'The Fat Back Woman goes Shopping' will be presented in the form of a short play. We selected a play because it would enable us to explore and express the author's emotions and actions. To create a deeper rapport with the audience.
