I want you in Athens, your say will matter and be heard no matter what. We have a better Political system where you have a say, we have a better Educational system where you get the Education you dreamed of, With Math Science and Writing/Reading, and a better Economy where we trade often! and If all of these reasons don't prove Athens is better then Sparta, you'll just have to see for yourself. Come to Athens, and have the life you dreamed of.
The Council of 500 Elders
The Council is a group that meets every day in Athens. It runs the daily businesses of government and creates laws for the Assembly of Athens to approve. The Assembly is where YOU come in. It is made of 6,000 citizens and each one of them has a say!!!! Each citizens has there own time to give their say on the law. Isn't that wonderful? YOU could be on the Assembly. Unlike in Sparta, where the most power you can get is on the battlefield.
The purpose of Education in Sparta is to live, and die for a country that barely cares about you. Why fight for a country that doesn't even want you!? Meanwhile in Athens we have a great Education system where your say matters. You get to go to school until your 18! Unlike Sparta, we learn about real things we need in our lives. Such as: Math, Science, Government, Music, Sports, Reading and Writing!!! In Athens, you'll get the education you dreamed of.
Mothers taught boys at home until age six or seven. From ages seven through fourteen, boys attended a day school where they learned reading, writing, arithmetic, literature, sports, and music. Next, boys went to a four year school to learn about math, science, and government. At 18, they attended two years of military school. This is the Education you really need.
Sparta is isolated. They don't even trade often because they fear other states influences! On the other hand, Athens has markets, they trade often, and have a plentiful supply of Gold, Silver, and Bronze to make trade easier! On the other other hand, Sparta made iron BARS to make trade harder. In Sparta, slaves made goods! But in Athens, everyone can sell and buy goods together!
Athens is much more involved then Sparta. They trade and buy goods way more often! In Sparta, if your not in the council, what's the point? To train and die for a country that doesn't even care for you? In Athens, you can sell goods at the Agora (A central marketplace) AND you have a say in the government... This sounds like a deal too good to be true!!!!!
Athens government was a Democracy. In which the main governmental system was the Council of 500. The Council met and discussed options, which the outcome of these discussions were usually what the people wanted. Unlike other city states, like Sparta and it's Oligarchy. In which the people had no say in the government and the Oligarchs reigned power.
Would you rather live in a Democracy where your say counts as much as anybody else?
A dangerous Oligarchy where your say has no meaning and you are oppressed till your life has no meaning?
It is clear what your choice is. Either a step in the future with our new and equal rights Government.
Or 2 steps back into the past with the no rights Government of Sparta.
It is really clear what your choice should be.
