1930

Franklin.D. Roosevelt was an elected president who created the 21st amendement repealing the 18th resulting to the prohobition era to end, legalizing alcohol and putting an end to gangs.

Detroiters were hungry within the early 1930s, which incited the Ford Hunger March on March 7, 1932. Thousands of demonstrators, counting unemployed Ford workers, walked to the Rouge Plant in Dearborn, where police opened fire without notice, murdering five and harming more than 50.

Gang wars continued to rise, mobsters eliminating each other. Additionally, the auto-mobile business in Detroit crashed after the depression in 1929, people couldn't afford the luxury to buy cars during that time. Unfortunetly, this caused people to lose jobs and head to poverty. Population grew from 300,000 in 1900 to almost 1.6 million in 1930, causing it to be the second largest city at that time.

Prohibition Era began when the 18th amendement was put in place by the U.S. Constution which banned all hard liquor. However the sales of liquor would increase.

Detroit population continues to rapidly grow due to more job opportunities from the automobile industry. Corruption within the police force continued to happen and the Purple gang would control the labor union for laundry services, if companies didn't want to join the union, they would be harrased or bombed.

In 1920 the automobile business was thriving as it grew faster than any city on the coninent. Crime and bootlegging increased rapidly creating certain gangs. For example, the Purple Gang who were Jewish gangsters who dealt in bootleging, murder, hijacking, gambling etc. They were know to be more ruthless than Al Capones chicago gang. The Purples were also in partnership with Al Capone as they both didn't want to start a war, understanding each other's power

Franklin. D. Roosevelt was elected as president creating the 21st amendement repealing the 18th amendement who legalized alcohol again and stopped the Prohobition era. Thanks to Roosevelt, crime dropped and the people began to drink, flooding bars, resturants and nightclubs.

Rumrunning became the second biggest industry in Detroit as it was right beside Canada, resulting to smuggling liqour easier. This made around $215 million dollars a year, (almost 3 Billion in today's currency). Great depression happened, which caused the economy to drop significantly. Following that, the St.Valentines massacre happend which is an unsolved crime of how one of Al Capones long term enemies got shot by men dressed up as policemen.

Since the Great Depression continued people would end up being broke and homeless causing plenty of evictions. Michigans jobless rate stood at 37% causing people to flood banks to withdraw their money, about $3 million dollars was withdrawn weekly from the Detroit banks. Until, Roosevelt creat the National Bank Holiday, closing all banks to limit chaos. After this Detroit decided to use script as a replacemnet for money in order to help the people. Ultimately helping people to pay for resources. Furthermore, Roosevelt created The Civilian Conservation Corps in 1933, which gave young men employemnt to help the environement.
