Early Life
Nathan Hale was born on June 6, 1755. He attended Yale University where he graduated in 1773 and decided to become a School Teacher.
He first taught at East Haddam and then in New London. He was commissioned a Captain in 1776.
During the battle of Long Island Nathan Hale volunteered to go in disguise behind enemy lines to report back to George Washington with information about British movements.
On September 21, 1776 he was captured by the British when he tried to return to his regiment. He was carrying information for George Washington about the British movements.

Nathan Hale was hung the next day without a trial. Supposedly before his death he had said, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country."
