pH Logarithmic Scale

By Ethan Avinu

How does it work?

What is pH?

pH is a measure of the hydrogen (H+) ion concentration of a solution

Solutions with a high concentration of hydrogen ions have a low pH

Solutions with a low concentration of hydrogen ions have a high pH

The pH scales has a range from 0-14

7 is neutral

>7 is acid

<7 is basic

How does it work?

pH scale is logarithmic which means a whole pH below 7 is ten times acidic then the next highest value.

E.g. pH 2 is 10 times more acidic than pH 3 and 100 times more acidic than pH 4

It also applies for pH levels over 7 but instead of acid its basic/alkaline.
