What is effected

The MC1R gene is located on the 16 Chromosome. When this gene is mutated, in several different combinations, the red pigment is produced.

  • D2494H is the most common mutation across te board
  • R160W is the irish common mutation
  • R151C mutation allows that person to be more responsiveness to pain
  • D84E raises the risk for melanoma
  • V92M causes the red-beard in men

Recessive

MC1R is a recessive trait, which takes both parents to have the same or different types of possible gene mutations of the MC1R gene.
