Working-from-home 10 tip survival guide
1. The transition from your pillow to your computer can be a bit challenging.
Adopt a get ready routine every morning that will give you an “I’m at work” mindset.
Dress for success,
with or without your pyjamas!
2. Define your workspace. We are creatures of habit and most of us are used to our normal home routines. Establishing a workspace gives your brain the signal that it is time for work. Have comfortable and functional furniture and don’t neglet the privacy of your workspace at all times.
Have clear goals, track them and share your progress. Your workday will pass differently without the regular comings and goings at the office. Start each day by answering to this question: ‘Are my priorities for today clear?’ if yes, you’re good to go, if no, speak to you Senior and make a plan together.
6. Eliminate home distractions. Communicate expectations with anyone who will be home with you.
7. Schedule face time to see your colleagues and battle loneliness: We are working from home, not the moon. Talking and interacting with our colleagues during the day is encouraged.
9. Continue to use best practices. Business as usual, continue working on your tasks and if you see that you finish them earlier than scheduled, work on documentation, projects pending, any training needed to be done. Always speak to your Seniors and see what can be done next.
10. Take regular breaks, get up to walk and stretch. It can be so easy to get distracted and avoid breaks altogether so giving your mind some time off can help you do more focused work after. Use your breaks to get away from your desk instead of another YouTube video.
Follow the 20-20-20 rule: take a 20-second break from looking at a screen every 20 minutes focusing on an object 20 feet away (It relaxes the eye muscles).
