The Golden Capped Fruit bat was Discovered in 1831 by German Naturalist
From 1986 to 2016 the bats population declined by 50%
This species is now threatened by hunting and loss of there original habitat.
Thirty years ago the population was 20,000 bats.
The bats biggest threat are human hunters. They are protected with three large roosting sites that are free from hunting, but they still get hunted when they forage away from the roosts.
As if 2016 these bats are considered endangered.
It is illegal to trade or hunt this species, but due to poor enforcement they are hunted still.
The Golden Capped Fruit Bats habitat are usually tropical forests and swampy areas. They are herbivores and mostly eat figs because they also roost on fig trees. The fig trees benefit from the bats through their droppings of the seeds.
The bats also roost on bamboo clumps and mangrove trees. They pollinate the crops and vegetables around where they live.
