Pollution
Waters in the Arctic are full of toxins and chemicals caused by pollution. Arctic seals that live in these waters are being harmed by these toxins and are dying off, which leaves the polar bears with less food sources.
Pollutants can affect Polar Bears hormonal system. For example it can stunt their growth, reproduction, and metabolism. Pollutants can also affect the polar bears nervous system and their cognitive skills.
Contact with oil spills can reduce the insulation of the bears fur, therefore the bears have to use more energy to keep warm
Polar bears rely on sea ice to find seals living along the ice edge, but the ice is melting twice as fast as the global average and reducing this source of food.
Polar bears live on sea ice making dens. As the sea ice melts it pushes Polar Bears further and further back giving them less room to live and causing frustration between packs.
