"Stay Safe During an Earthquake"

Go to an open area. Once in the open, stay there until the shaking stops. An open area is safer where nothing could fall over you and hurt you.
Pull over to a stop if you're in your vehicle that is away from trees, power lines, and buildings. Wait in the car until the shaking stops.
Get away from anything that could fall on you, such as trees, power lines, buildings, and houses. It is safer to go in an open area where nothing could fall on you.
Drop onto your hands and knees before the earthquake knocks you down. This position protects you from falling but allows you to still move if necessary.
Cover your head and neck with your arms or an object so that you are protected from any debris or furniture falling during the earthquake. For example, if you are in a bed, protect your head with a pillow.
Hold on to the object that you are under so that you remain covered.
If you can't get under something strong, or if you are in a hallway, flatten yourself or crouch against an interior wall.
Don't panic. The calmer you are, the more rational decisions you will make. When you are flustered or panicked, you will not be able to make the best decisions for your safety and the safety of others.
Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture. Just go under
a table or desk instead to protect yourself.
If in a building, be aware that the electricity may go out and you may be trapped inside the elevator during an earthquake. Avoid using elevators and use stairs or fire escapes instead.
Don't run. Trying to run in an earthquake is dangerous, as the ground is moving and you can easily fall or be injured by debris or glass. Just stay calm and cover your head to protect yourself.
