Islam diffused hierarchically, as with these regions, the Ottoman Empire, fro instance, took an imperialistic approach when obtaining these territories, which meant changing their cultural mindsets to one that reflected the islamic religion they believed in. Since the empire was built, the rulers followed this path in regards to religion, and then it diffused down the social ladder that was present there.
