In Croatia
By Kamryn Bolger
Croatia is known for its eye-catching emerald and sapphire water that is accompanied by white pebbled sand, but there are so many other important aspects of Croatia too! In Croatia there are many different sports, but the most popular sport is football also known as soccer. There is NOT a large amount of different religions practiced in Croatia, but the three most common religions are Roman Catholic which is 86.3% of the population, Orthodox which is 4.4% of the population, and Muslim which is 1.5% of the population. Croatia and its people are also very well known for their treatment of tourists, and how safe the cities are.
Croatia has a high level of economic development due to the amount of tourism and the high gross domestic product (GDP). Tourism accounts for Croatia being economically developed because of the large profit they get from tourism, and many of the jobs are based on trade or tourism services.
This image to the right is a graph of the anuall GDP growth by percent in Croatia.
GDP stands for the Gross Domestic Product, it is a measurement of final goods and services, and counts all of the output generated within the country.
The sector of the economy that most of Croatia's jobs fall into is the tertiary sector. Why Croatia's jobs fall under the tertiary sector is because just over 70% of the jobs are service based. Croatia is a hot tourist attraction due to the location and the natural beauty, so many of the jobs are trade and tourism serviced based which are high profit jobs.
The McDonald’s Croatian menu has many similarities to the USA menu, but there are also some key differences too. The Croatian menu is not as ‘kid friendly’ as the USA menu, there are no Happy Meals, and most of the menu is targeted to adults and not kids. Due to Croatia using the Metric System, they have no quarter pounders on their menu unlike the USA McDonald’s menu. Also in Croatia there are no combos or meals on the McDonald’s menu, you have to buy everything individually. One last major difference in the Croatian McDonald’s menu compared to the USA menu is in Croatia they serve beer as one of their beverages.
What do you notice about Croatia's packaging, the names of their foods, and the way logos or menus are designed? How is it different from McDonald’s in the US?
The Croatian McDonald’s menu has almost identical names for all of their products compared to the USA menu, but their packaging has a few differences. The Croatian packaging for their food is way more detailed, there are multiple colors on the packaging, and you can also find cute little designs and sayings too. Compared to the Croatian packaging, the USA McDonald’s packaging is very plain and simple, you can normally find the packaging one plain color, and there is normally no type of artistic design to brighten up the packaging.
This is a image of the beer that is sold on Croatias McDonald's Menu.
Here is a image of some of the more adult targeted burgers, you can also see how there are no quarter pounders, and there are a lot more options for Vegans and Vegetarians.
Dont worry though, Croatia still has the classic McDonald's Chicken Nuggets on their menu, But just no Happy Meals!
There are many unique products found on the Croatian McDonald’s menu that reflect on Croatia as a country, and its culture. One main item that is on the Croatian menu is beer, Croatians are one of the biggest beer drinkers in the world, so they have beer on the McDonald’s menu to connect with the Croatians love of beer. Due to Croatia's common high profit jobs, the McDonald’s menu uses it as an advantage. They have more higher end products such as their specialty Mushroom Veggie Burgers, and their Vegan burgers too, because Croatians are ok with paying for more costly food because they have high salaries.

How McDonald’s in Croatia is a representation of globalization and diffusion is it was an idea that was spread to a different country. McDonald’s in Croatia is an example of Globalization of the Economy, it was an idea that first started in the USA but then was shared to other countries such as Croatia. It is also an example of Stimulus Diffusion, it was the idea/company that was introduced to Croatia, but characteristics were changed to adapt to Croatia and the culture.
