Ganymede

Ganymede is Jupiters biggest moon. It is icy, but likely has a salty ocean underground. This is one of Jupiter's most suitable for life moons.

Is Jupiter Habitable?

Jupiter Facts

  • Jupiter is a gas giant.
  • It is the fifth planet from the sun.
  • Weight is 253% of Earth's gravity.
  • Gravity is 24.79 m/s/s.
  • 3 degree tilt, making seasons less extreme.
  • 100x Earth's atmosphere
  • It has 94 moons.
  • 10 hour days.
  • 12 Earth years per year.
  • -166 degrees farenheit.

About Io

Europa

Conclusion

Europa has an icy top layer with some water. Below this is just rocks and metal. Europa can be a great place for water, but not much else.

In conclusion, Jupiter is not habitable. The best bet we have would likely be Ganymede. The gravity is too much, the atmosphere too thick, tempuratures too cold, and it is too far from the Sun to be habitable.

Io has no water, therefore, would not be a great place to be. Discovered by Galileo, it has lots of volcanic activity. It having no water and high volcanic activity gives it a really low ranking on the "Habitable" scale

Facts about Io

  • Io is about 4.5 billion years old, about the same age as Jupiter.
  • It is Jupiter's third largest moon.

Jupiter is obviously inhabitable, but are its moons?
