Physical Struggle

Physical challenges

These challenges include muscle weakness, tremors, stiffness, and difficulty walking, which are central to the theme of physical struggle. The author states

"My right leg drags a little. My right foot drops. When I don’t have the rollator".

The Unpredictable Nature of Life

Life can be unpredictable. The author states"It begins for me in my 30s. When I’m out running, my right foot goes out from under me, then comes back into position. It’s nothing, I think. But over time, it happens more and more frequently." It would be horrible to all of a sudden develope a life changing desease.

Societal Perceptions of Disability

Sometimes societal perceptions are all very critical and judging. The author states " Disability is contemptuousLinks to an external site. of your refusal. It scoffs at your desperate concern. It pushes forward and it drags you after it." To me this means lots of people dont treat you normally and ind of scoff at you.

Societal Perceptions of Disability

Emotional Impact of Disability

From paragraph 4 of the hawk can soar, The author states an example of emotional impact is" I cannot live my life without being overcome with profound fatigue, an exhaustion so deep and unmeasurable that I weep when I don’t have the strength to make dinner." This must be very painfull.

Emotional impact

Acceptance and adaptation

Some examples or the lady adapting to her struggles are, The author states "I push the walker in front of me, its front wheels larger than the wheels in back".

Its good that she is adapting to her new lifestyle, even though its really hard and unpleasant.

Adapation

Self perception

As her disabilities get worse she eventually changes her view of herself. The author states, "Eventually, however, I am disabled. Disabled. Like this word is the sum total of my existence" It would suck to be disabled especially at such a young age.

Self perception

Resilance and fighting spirit

Resilance and fighting spirit.

As the story ges on the woman eventually comes to terms with herself and accepts herself. The author states "Thus subordinated, I live. And I keep on living.

This story should end with an epiphany, a moment when I discover that I can still soar".

Im glad she has came to terms with herself.

Hope and Symbolism

There is lots of hope and symbolism in the hawk can soar so i will give multipe examples.

The author states "This story should end with an epiphany, a moment when I discover that I can still soar. How we love this narrative in America! The ultimate act of bootstrapping:Links to an external site. refusing to give in to a body you cannot control and that medicine is helpless to cure"

"he breeze lifting the sky and then lifting the sky again, each cloud turning. For just a moment, my heart lifts and, as if to answer me". There is more but these are the ones that stuck out to me the most.
