Apache Mountain Spirit Dance

AKA the Gaan culture

CULTURE

This dance is apart of the White Mountain Apache Tribe's culture

MOVEMENT

Before the dance begins, there is a large fire that is lit in the center of the dancing area. This is the signal that lets the singers and drummers know when to start the music so the dancers can begin.

DETAILS

The performers emobdy the Gaan and wear hooded garments with paint on their body. There are many different names and meanings for different events that happen in a person's life.

IMPORTANCE

The importance of the Apache Tribe dance is that it provides protection, healing, and deflects bad spirits. It also has the cultural aspect for people coming of age.
