Visual Acuity Test

Visual Acuity Test

Visual Acutiy tests examine your ability to see certain things from a distance, such as letters and numbers. They are often used when one is experiencing change in their vision, or difficulty seeing, however, one is also likely to take a Visual Acutiy test at a young age or age of development, in order to ensure that the eye is developing correctly.

As a fraction, visual acutiy is represented by the number 20/20. Your visual acuity at a distance of 20 feet from an object is considered normal. However , if you have 20/40 vision, it would entail that you would need to be 20 feet away in order to notice an object that most people can see from 40 feet away.

Slit lamps help diagnose nuemerous conditions, such as but not limited to macular degeneration, and cataracts. A normal test result entails a healthy eye, however, an abnormal test result may be the result of many different conditions, such as but not limited to inflimmation, or increase in eye pressure, which can be the product of certain conditions.

Slit lamps are used to look for issues in the eye, they do this by enabiling the physican to look closely at your eyes. During a slit lamp examination, you will place your head on an instrument in front of you, as to rest it. From there eye drops will be dropped into your eye, and a slit lamp will be used to make any abnormalities more visible, as it is an intense light.

The phoropter is typically only used after a serious of tests and other devices have already been used or done. The phoropter helps determine whether or not one has an issue with their eyes. It does this by switching through different lenses to determine which might best suit the person.
