Philippians 1:12-20
Happy Birthday Day David.
This year has been a year like no other in recent years and we all have felt the effects of 2020. It's been a hard year!
Introduction
This Thursday during our Christmas Eve service we sang Silent night and it mint something. it wasn't just this yearly song we cruise past. It mint something. what it means is we have hope.
Paul's letter to the Philippians is encourage them because of his circumstances. Paul is a prisoner in Rome under house arrest for preaching Christ and the good news of the Gospel
Read Phil 1:12-13
12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,[a] that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard[b] and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
Phil 1:12-20
Paul is using his situation as a means to advance the Gospel. he is infiltrating the Roman military.
Explain how the Roman solders were chained to Paul. they couldn't beat him to be quit because he had Roman citizenship.

14 And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

How does that inspire me? you see he is not making a name for himself He making a name for Christ. It make me want to work as if I'm working unto the Lord.
Phil 1:15-18
15 It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16 The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
If you are dying of thrist does it matter who the water come from? this is the good news of the Gospel. "Its good news"
Whether the intention is right or wrong the are preaching the gospel. They are giving hope.
Phil 1:19-20
19 for I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance.[a] 20 I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.

Paul's expectation is that he is going to be set free, but if it doen't happen i want to bring honor to Christ because he is my hope.
Can you imagine paul in his imprisonment singing silent night. I can garentee it means something and thats Hope.
