Recessive traits are when a trait is hidden. For example, if your dad has red hair, and your mom has black hair, and you get black hair. That means your dad's hair gene was recessive, or not showing.

Let's say that your mom has blue eyes, your dad has brown eyes, and you have brown eyes. That means your dad's gene is dominant, and your mom's gene is recessive, meaning your dad's gene is hiding your mom's.
