Wes Moore has very view memories of his father but he has enough to tell a story.One time he was just rough playing with his older sister Nikki and his mother gets on to him for it but his father comes home from work and protects him for it.The other memory he has of his father is when he died when he was only four years of age.

The second Wes Moore's father never loved him, in the matter of fact he never wrote him letters,called him on the phone, have any father son time, he never even spoke to the kid.But one day when he was eight years old he went over to his grandmother's house and he met his father for the first time, as his father was sitting on the coach and soon passes out into an alcoholic stupor.But after this he hasn't even wanted to see his father once more after he's seen the man he is and figured out the things he's done to his own wiife and kids, like not being there for his wife when she was in high school with a child, when her mother died , when she couldn't stay on top of her school work because she had to watch her kids, and the fact that he never bothered to come visit his kids when he lived a block away.

Wes Moore's mother wanted the best for him and his siblings, she didn't want him to go to a public school in the area and get caught up with all the bad kids and she also wanted them to get a better education than most children so they'd have more opportunities in life.So Wes Moore and his sisters moved to New York with their mother to study at a private school.At first it was hard going from a small town to a large city but eventually he got the hang of it.But there was one problem, he was going to a school which was mostly populated with white children and he was black making him different from everyone else so he got picked on and was separate from everybody else for this specific reason.

Wes was known to be a good kid but just like the saying, curiosity is what killed the cat, couriosity is what got him into some mess.
After school him and his friend Justin decided to go to their old neiborhood and take a peek around.They started to talk about drugs and how much power it has over people and how much power it gave you, they also told each other stories of crazy things that people've done because of drugs and how drug gangs run the neiborhood and make a lot of money off of it.The next day Wes planned to skip school with his friends but as he was digging through his mother's closet for money he found a stash of weed.Wes knew what it was but just wondered why people got so
adicted to it.Him and his friends decided to skip school
smoke weed instead.Wes finally realized how
powerful drugs were and how easy it would
be to make money off of it.

Wes's brother Tony knew there was a lot of money being made after seeing all the brand new shoe boxes in his room.
Wes said he made all the money off of Djing but Tony knew better there was only one way to make so much money as a kid around the area, Drug selling.Tony beated Wes and tried his best to convince him not to sell drugs.But Wes denied his brother after tony told him so many times not to, so Tony gave up on trying to convince Wes.
Mary wittnessed the whole thing and pryed to god that Wes wasn't getting caught up in such things.But the next day while wes was at school she found three shoe boxes that had items that wearnt soes but to her devistation drugs.She flushed 4,000$ worth of drugs down the toilet and
demanded Wes to stop selling drugs no matter what the
cost.

Wes has become popular with women at his school and gets one pregnant(Alicia) but fails to stop seeing other girls at his school.Alicia has only known Wes for two months before she got pregnant and was not expecting to be traught such a way. Wes fails to stop seeing other girls in the school, one day he gets into a fight with one of the girls boyfriends Ray gets into a fight with Wes which quickly turns into a shootout with Wes and his boys chasing Ray down the street.Wes was accused of attempted murder for shooting Ray in the shoulder but luckily he was sentenced to juvenile detention for 6 months.
But soon after this Wes was sentenced to jail for getting caught by accidentally selling drugs to an undercover cop.

Wes Moore was doing pritty bad at staying on top of his grades and being respectful, so his mother decided to put him in military school.It wasn't working out for him at first, with him not participating in any of the workouts and tring to escape 4 times, they made him call his mother.He begged her if he could leave but Joy made him stay, after the phone call he is appointed to Captain Ty Hill, a 19-year-old African-American man who is a distinguished cadet.He begins to have a good relationship with Ty Hill and is able to make it pass military school.Military school

Wes Moore has matured much more after military school and is no the best athlete in his grade. He is a basketball star and is getting shcolar offers from a large number of colleges, but his uncle Howard reminds him that he must have a backup plan because despite his talent the chances of him making it to the NBA are slim.
One day he an his friend Dalio were going out to eat at a pizza place but on their way there they were harassed by a gorup of drunk teenagers, one of whom claims to be Colonel Bose’s son. The teenagers shout racist abuse and throw a heavy object at Moore’s face, but he chooses not to retaliate, instead ensuring that both he and Dalio get home safely.After that night he thought about the things those kids said and did to him and was frustrated with it.

Wes was sick of dealing drugs and wanted a safe life for him and his family so he decided to quit the drug game and find a new job. But it was hard finding a new job that doesn't require a degree, luckily Wes found a job he enrolled in with his friend Levy. They started working for a program called the Jobs Corps campus and he earned his GED in record time, and thrives in his vocational training as a carpenter, he even built a house for his daughter. However, things become more difficult back in the outside world; Wes earns minimum wage working temporary, menial jobs and has no time to spend with his family. Eventually, he starts dealing drugs again.
How Wes gets life in prison
Wes's mother is watching the news and figures out that Tony and Wes are wanted for murdering an off duty cop, during a jewelry store robbery.She is aggressively searched and interrogated by the police, who even interrupt Aunt Nicey’s daughter’s wedding to question the guests about Wes and Tony’s whereabouts. In reality, Wes and Tony are hiding out at their uncle’s house in North Philadelphia. After 12 days, the men are found and arrested. While Tony accepts a plea deal to avoid the death penalty, Wes maintains his innocence and his case goes to trial. He is found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

So he wrote letters to him and then met him in person each week to talk about their lives. And that was
