By Jackson Wolfe, Robert Buchmann, and Rhone Kuta
Abraham Lincoln was born in Hodgenville, Kentucky on February 12, 1809. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. He had two siblings, Sarah, the oldest sibling, and Thomas, the youngest who died when he was little. Abe lived on a farm and used his leisurely time writing, reading, ciphering ect. His childhood was rough though because he moved from Kentucky, to the Indiana Territory, and to Illinois.
When Abe's father moved his family to Coles County, Illinois, Abe went on his own and moved to New Salem, Illinois. He became a shopkeeper, a postmaster, and was a general store owner. Abe's jobs gave him good social skills. Speaking of good social skills, one day he met Mary Todd, a women who came from a wealthy family, and they started to date.
In 1840 Abraham Lincoln got engaged with Mary Todd. Later in 1842 he got married. Abe had four kids, but only one survied to become an adult. Robert Todd Lincoln, Tad Lincoln, William Wallace Lincoln, Edward Baker Lincoln were his kids.
In 1834 Abe got elected to the Illinois state legislature. Later in 1837 Abe moved to Springfield, Missouri to become a lawyer. In 1856 Abe decided to run for U.S. senate. Abe didn't get elected senator, but he was very well known for debates with Stephen Douglas.
Before Abe was elected, he had already decided he was a Republican so he ran for president with Stephen Douglas. He did not expect to win but to his surprise he was elected 16th president of the U.S. While president, he did a few other things other than start and end the civil war. To start with, he broke several president records like the tallest president {not counting top hat} and first president with full beard. However, he also did other things like start a banking company.
The Gettysburg Adress was Abraham Lincoln's most famous speech. It took place in Pensylvania. There were 15,000 people that listened to Abraham Lincoln's famous speech.
Five days after the war ended Lincoln, his wife, and friends went to the Ford Theater. Sadly, he was shot behind his head by John Wilkes Booth, a conferderate supporter. Wilkes Both hated Lincoln and blamed him for the Civil War.It's sad because he said that in a dream he had, he predicted he would be assasssinated. He died in an early morning of 1865, five days after the Civil War ended.
