Who were the Guardians of the Revolution?
A women's branch that was added in 1982 to arrest women who were improperly veiled.
One of the panels that was the most important was when her parents had to go through the airport back home and they were asked if they had any illegal items. Marjane's father had posters hidden under his coat but to prevent getting in trouble both parents lied. They were risking a lot to get Marjane's posters even though it was against the law.
Another panel that was important is the panel where Marjane gets in trouble for wearing western clothing. Her parents bring her back Nike's, a jean jacket, and tight pants. Marjane in her excitement wears all of the clothing items when she goes into town. The Guardians of the Revolution quickly notice and take her to the committee to punish her. They end up letting her go but Marjane learned her lesson about wearing western clothing into town
In this quote, it shows the reason why it is so important for you to properly wear your scarf in Iran. In Iran, it is said that if you don't wear the scarf, you are at risk for rape or violence.
This Chapter only assures that Marjane was fierce, independent, and strong-hearted during her child/teenage years. She is compassionate about what is really going on within Iran's government, and her determination occasionally gets the best of her when it comes to the unfair situations she experiences throughout the book.
This chapter is important to the book as a whole because it informs us more about Iran's culture and laws. It also gives more to Marjane's personality as a teenager, such her strong will.
This chapter is a reminder to her will to contribute to the well-being of Iran as a younger child. But as she moves to Austria, her interest begins to fade about what goes on in Iran, and it more becomes about herself rather than how Iran is opperated. As she comes back from Austria, she loosely follows the rules (just like she did as a child/teen) and her care for others fades (for example, when she accuses someone of saying indecent things about her to distract the guards from her wearing lipstick).
When she goes out into the city to buy tapes from all the men in trench coats even though it is against the law.
When tries to convince the Guardians of the Revolution that her Michael Jackson pin is Malcom X.
When Marjane went to the extreme just to make sure she doesn't get in trouble by the Guardians of the revolation.
It shows Marjane's persistance
I love the facial expression that Marjane Satrapi drew.
