Roberta Bondar was very important because she was the only woman of the seven crew members of NASA mission STS-42,who did experiments in the shuttle! She was also the first Canadian female astronaut in this mission.
The people that came to the STS-42 mission were, Ronald Grabe, Stephen Oswald, Norman Thagard, William Readdy, David Hilmers, Roberta Bondar,and Ulf Merbold! In total there were 7 members. Roberta DID eventually come back from the STS-42 mission. She returned on January 30, 1992. The current time was 8:07 am and she stayed in space for 8 days! The countries that were involved were Canada, Portugues, and USA.
Roberta Bondar was born on December 4, 1945 and she is 76 years old today. She won the NASA space flight medal while she was on the STS -42 mission in space! She has one sibling that is named Barbara Bondar. At first Roberta was told that she shouldn't get into science because it wasn't for girls but she didn't let that stop her.
