PLANETS OF OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

Mercury

Smallet planet in our solar system

Closet planet to our sun

Has the shortest orbit

One year on Mercury is only 3 months on Earth

Facts

Venus

The hottest planet, temperature up to 867 F

The surface is covered with volcanoes, mountains, and ridges

It's atmosphere is trapped by carbon dioxide

Earth

The only planet known to be able to sustain life

The water on the planet gives life - the water covers 70% of the planet

Mars

The most explored planet besides Earth

Often known as the Red Planet

It has the tallest mountain called

Olympus Mons - threes times

taller than Mt. Everest

Second smallest planet after

Mercury

Jupiter

The largest planet in our solar system

It is the one of the four gas planets

It doesn't have a solid surface

The different bands of color are actually stroms that make the swirly pattern

The most famous storm is the Great Red Spot which is big enough to fit two Earths.

Saturn

Saturn is another one of the gas planets

Its most distinct features are the rings around the planets - up to 150 miles wide

Uranus

LIke Saturn, it also has a ring system but it is very faint

It has at least 27 moons that range from rocky to icey moons

Its equator is perpendicular to its orbit meaning it rotates on its side

The tilt of this planet makes the season last very long - one year on Uranus is equal to 84 year on Earth.

Neptune

The farthest planet away from our sun

It is the planet with the fastest wind speed - up to hundreds of miles per hour

Similar to Jupiter, it has a lot of storms within the planet

Neptune also has rings, but they are so thin that they are almost invisible
