Mob mentality is defined as “the tendancy of the people in a group to think and behave in ways that conform with others in the group rather than as individuals”(Merrium-Webster). The Salem Witch Trials is an example of mob mentality because t he people of Salem joined the group of accusers in order to avoid being accused of being a witch themselves.
Mob mentality spread to neighboring communities, but eventually went away. Village leaders began to clear all accused individuals of witchcraft. The final case was cleared in 2001.
