Colosseum construction

The colosseum was constructed in 70 AD and ordered to be built by Vespasian. They had chose the place to put it because it was flat land in between hills surrounding. It had been finished right before he died.Vespasian's second son the Emperor Domitian added the top tier of the Colosseum and the rooms, cells, tunnels and passages under the colosseum called the Hypogeum. The architecture of the colosseum was based off of the latest Roman styles. It was built by slaves and the work conditions were harsh. They used mostly travertine limestone, tuff or tufo, cement, tile, brick and marble.

The colosseum was constructed by the slaves prisoners that were bought back to Rome as slaves after the Jewish War

The start of colosseum construction was in 70 AD, they finished building the colosseum in around AD 80.

How?

They started building the colosseum from the bottom up, they started with the basments and worked there way up to the top. After the colosseum had been constructed the new emperor added tunnels and the top level of the colosseum.

The colosseum was commissioned in A.D. 70-72 by Emperor Vespasia as a gift for the people of Rome. It eventually fell into neglect, but in the time that they still used it regularly, it was a very big part of the Roman culture. They would have people fight in multiple different ways while other citizens watched.

Roman Battles and other forms of public speculations and events were held quite often in the Roman Colosseum, It had enough seats to fit between 50 and 80 thousand people, making it beneficial for all of the people who came for all of the events that were held. They were held very often and most people came. They went to the colosseum to see the events everyday for 100 days straight.

They had gladiatorial combats, wild animal fights, The ‘sea battle’ (they would fill the whole colosseum with water and then battle), The circus games, Circus disasters, chariot racing, and public executions.

They were polytheistic (believed in many gods)they used the colosseums as recreational, if they had prisoners or peasants they would take them to the colosseum and make them fight. There beliefs in many gods definitely affected this. They believed that this was the way to cause the people to think this was the way to deal with injustice.

The Colossus had a 30 meter bronze statue and was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The colosseum became a symbol against capital punishment. They had flags and banners put up over the outside.

Bestiarii were apart, they fought animals instead of humans, Noxii were lowest in Roman society, Retiarius were lightly armored but they had the advantage of agility, mobility and speed, Secutor would fight against Retiarius, Equities group of citizens that originally formed cavalry of the Roman army

The colosseum and the games that they held within it affect the way that we play sports now in many different ways. They use the design of it and mimic it in our everyday sports stadiums. From the players down on the field to the people high up in the stands, we got all of these ideas and architecture.
