Hawaii, previously led by kings and queens, was getting pressured by politicians and sugar companies, causing them to worry about their sugar being tariffed. Many natives alongside their last queen petitioned against the annexation of their homeland. Their queen claimed that her throne “had been taken illegally and that any U.S. efforts to annex Hawaii without the due process of law would be unacceptable.”. However, due to their low representation power in the US, they were getting taken advantage of by plantation owners with cheap labor. This caused Hawaiians to start pushing for statehood- on August 21, 1959, President Eisenhower officially stated Hawaii to be the 50th state shortly after its passing in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Franklin Roosevelt (FDR) became president in 1933, he was viewed as a hope for the citizens of America that he would get them out of the Great Depression’s grasp. His attempt at tackling the Great Depression’s damage was by creating the New Deal. One of the parts of the New Deal that helped heal the country was his help with Dust Bowl. In 1929, blizzards had stricken many farmer's crops across the country and sickened their children. On top of that, crickets would eat all that was left of the drying crops. FDR planted massive borders of trees around farms to act as windbreaks. Additionally, he created the Soil Conservation Service which taught farmers better soil practices so the crop market could thrive once again in America. (Source)

"He kept us out of war… [but] he asked Congress for a declaration of war on Germany."
After Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States, he coined the phrase: “He kept us out of the war”. This had been his tactic to win re-election for the US. However, shortly after his election, he declared that the US could not remain neutral in the war. Even though he protested to declare war on Germany to Congress, the US still remained officially neutral throughout the rest of the war. (Source)
Rumor spread about Sarah Page, a 17-year-old elevator operator, and Dick Rowland, a 19-year-old African American bootblack. People accused Rowland of assaulting Page on the elevator and sent him to jail. They formed a mob outside the jail and broke him out to then proceed to massacre his body and burn it to char. This set off a chain reaction known as the “Red Summer” that were a series of lynchings and destruction aimed against African Americans. Historians estimate the damages to be 300 black lives and 191 attacks against black-owned businesses. (Source)
