  • December 2015 the RCMP launched an inquiry into the missing/murdered women
  • Project E- pana conducting homicide investigations of 18 girls and women who disappeared
  • This was pushed by the murder of Tina Fontaine

- public outcry of this young girls murder caused the RCMP to effectively look into her case

  • a section of Yellowhead highway 16 from Prince Rupert in the northwest to Prince George in central BC
  • 23 first nations border the highway
  • these regions face poverty and do not have public transit options
  • Indigenous women hitchhike along this highway and many have disappeared or been murdered
