Mount Vesuvius

DESCRIPTION

Dark clouds fill the sky. A rumble fills the ground. An ear pearcing sound fills the air. Horific screams of pain and shock echo through my mind. I know this would be the end. Dark smoke rushes through my throat, as my lungs clench together.

SIZE

Mount vesovius was 2438.4m high before the 79AD eruption. Today, Mount Vesovius is only 1289m. high above sea level. The eruption was 12 miles high and more than double the size of Mount Everest. The eruption went on for 24 hours.

APPEARANCE

A huge mountion of rocks are on the edge of the Medeteranian sea. Life forms such as insects and small mamals can be found around it. Today, Munt Vesuvius is quit green around the base, but brown around the top.

Mount Vesuvius is a volcano east of Naples. It is the only volcano on the Europe mainland to have erupted within the last hundred years, Although, it is not currently erupting. The only other two volcanoes in Italy are located on islands.

Mount Vesuvius was said to have formed 25,000 years agao. Mount Vesuvius is the only active volcano in mainland Europe. Located on Italy's west coast, it overlooks the Bay and City of Naples.Mount Vesuvius is most famous for the 79 .A.D. eruption which destroyed the Roman citiy of Pompeii. Though the volcano's last eruption was in 1944, it still represents a great danger to the cities that surround it, especially Naples.

A major eruption Mount Vesuvius could result in 8,000 fatalitise, 13,000 serious injuries and a total estimated cost of $24 billion dollars to rebuild the city, According to arecent study Mount Vesuvius is at the top of the list of Europe's 10 most dangerous volcanoes.

IMPACT ON NATURE

The volcano also caused earthquakes and a tsunami, which destroyed the natural environment in Pompeii. The damage caused by the volcano also had long term effects on neighboring cities. Pompeii was not the only city to be destroyed or damaged by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
