-The people and system that is in charge of a group of people. A government is typically responsible for laws, protection, etc. Governments in different forms have been around throughout history.
-People need governments because governments help to organize a group of people. Cultures or groups will be more successful if they have a central, strong, and corruption (abuse of power) free government.
- Government is in charge of many things. Examples of what the government is in charge of are:
- Protection from enemies
- Economics (money and resources)
- Laws
- Social Programs (Food stamps, retirement funds, etc)
- Education
- Etc.
-Limited government does not have full control over its citizens.
-Unlimited governments have complete control over its citizens.
- Monarchy: The government and people are ruled by one person who inherits power, usually a king.
-Dictatorship: One person rises to power and has full control.
- Oligarchy: A few powerful and wealthy people control the government.
- Direct Democracy: Citizens have a say in how government is ran.
- Republic: Citizens elect representatives who rule for them.
-Communism: Government has full control and the government owns all the property.
