Where is the Kalahari Desert?

The Kalahari Desert is in Southern Africa covering Botswana and parts of Namibia. It extends for over 900,000 miles.

Habitat/ecosystem

Habitat/ Ecosystem

It is wetter in north and east parts. Its mainly made up of a type of acacia known as the camelthorn tree. The camelthorn manufactures nutrients that let other plants grow around its base which gives shade for the animals.

Climate

Climate

  • In winter the air is dry and the temperature is around 25 degrees celcius. Nights are very cold.
  • In summer it can get up to 40 degrees celcius and higher. Their annual rainful is rarely more than 100mm. Precipitation is only expected in December and April.
