Biodiversity and ecosystem loss

BIODIVERSITY:

DEFINITION

  • Biodiversity is the variety of life.

  • This recent concept includes several levels of biological organization.
  • It covers the diversity of species of plants, animals, fungi and

microorganisms that live in a given space, its genetic variability, the

ecosystems of which these species are part and the landscapes or

regions where the ecosystems are located.

CAUSES OF LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY

  • An ecosystem is a biological

system constituted by a

community of living organisms

and the physical environment

where they are related, it is a

unit composed of

interdependent organisms that

share the same habitat.

ECOSYSTEM

CAUSES:

1

Overexploitation of the natural environment.

2

The loss of the habitats of the species.

3

The pollution of the environment.

4

The introduction of invasive alien species.

REGIONAL:

GLOBAL

PERSPECTIVE

However, the efforts that are deployed to

fulfill the aims and objectives of the

conservation units, the media, the media,

the deterioration, the illegal extraction of

wood (mainly on both banks of the Pajatén

river basin) , the cattle activity in the upper

part of the PNRA, the mining activity with

the extraction of gold, the forestry

concessions, the protected areas, the

illegal fishing, mainly in the streams,

lagoons and in the basin of the PNRA.

CAUSES:

IMPORTANCE

  • Population and deforestation are two of the greatest threats in the

areas

  • natural Because of that, many species probably will not be known,

  • being that the worse prejudice. The recognition of abundance must

be accompanied

  • of responsibilities, it is necessary to know what resources are

counted and the state of

  • conservation that they present, in order to facilitate their

administration.

IMPORTANCE:

PERU PERSPECTIVE

  • Without forests, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions could not be

contained and, without the existence of this vegetation cover,

life on the planet would not be possible either.

  • Forest conservation prevents soil erosion

  • The Amazonian forests emit a large amount of steam that then

turns into clouds, and they head towards the southern part of

the continent, precipitating themselves in the form of rain.

  • Our Amazonian forests guard the indigenous and peasant

communities, which play an important role in their preservation.

  • About a quarter of the forests are not categorized, so they are

the most exposed to their poor use and destruction.

IMPORTANCE:

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

1. Two species of vertebrates have disappeared on average every

year for a century.

2. Earth is currently experiencing a "mass extinction", the first since

the disappearance of dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, the sixth

in 500 million years and the first caused by man.

3. About 41% of amphibians and more than a quarter of mammals

are in danger of extinction.

4. 25,821 of the 91,523 species (28.2%) listed in the Red List of the

International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), updated in

2017, have been classified as "threatened".

What should be done about it? Anaya points out that it is

necessary to be aware of the state of the resources of the

lands and waters, of the alterations in the biodiversity of our

country in order to prevent negative effects on health and

our economy, in addition to avoid social conflicts and

migrations caused by the reduction of income in the

population.

TO BE AWARE

This 2018 the relevant slogan chosen by the United Nations

to commemorate the International Day of Biological

Diversity is "Safeguarding Life on Earth".
