San Lorenzo is destroyed and Olmec monuments are defaced.

Olmec begins to demonstrate their fine artistic skills throughout art. Many monuments were composed of stone throughout their time.

Sacrificial pyramids and other Olmec monuments are uncovered from this time.

900 BC

Timeline

First major cities within Olmec territory begin to flourish. The Gulf Coast region allowed for successful harvests and trapping.

La Venta is destroyed and is considered then end of the Olmec Civilization.

400 BC

La Venta becomes a trading capital, following the destruction of San Lorenzo.

"Early Olmec Period" begins. This was the beginning of the era in which major cities were being born.

San Lorenzo becomes Olmec capital due to its identity as a critical trading hub and attraction for Olmec people.

Olmec Civilization begin to record data and leave distinct signs of their civilization throughout the Gulf Coast.
