Wetlands Around the World

Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge

Western United States

This wetland is a significant provider for both humans and animals. The main provisoinal values it offers for us is rich farm land but it is also a vital habitat for plenty of animals and especially migratory birds.

Flora

This basin is very biodiverse and the majority of it is comprised of tall grasses like cat tails or (Typhaceae) Under ten percent of this wetland being considered a forest.

Fauna

While it is very common for wetlands to have lots of fish and amphibians, this one also provides for a massive number of birds. A total of 5.8 million Waterfowl were observed in the atumn of 1958. Unfortuneatly these numbers are dropping as time goes on. (Gilmer 2004)
