A Chinese man named Zhang Heng invented the seismograph in Ancient China. He was an astronomer, mathematician, and mechanical engineer. Zhang Heng lived during the HAN dynasty as a director of astrology.
How was your invention used in ANCIENT CHINA?
The Seismograph in Ancient China, was made of 3 main materials; bronze, copper, and metal. The eight dragons that circled the pot were made of metal. The device itself was made of bronze. The small balls that were dropped into the mouths of the toads were created with copper.
He had multiple discoveries that soon led him to figure out that this design would be able to accomplish what it does. Through his studies in science, he developed a good understanding of natural processes. This idea, as great as we may see it, wasn’t originally excepted by the other scientists that he worked with. They didn't beleive him at first, and after they were somewhat convinced of his discoveries, people feared what knowledge he might have.
The seismograph was invented during the Han dynasty in 132 AD.
The seismograph could tell people what direction an earthquake was coming from, even from 100s of miles away. It could also give people a warning a little bit, ahead of time .
People were able to have a better understanding of where an earthquake was coming from and how bad it is/was. They also could tell for sure that an earthquake was in fact, a natural disaster, not a negative sign from heaven
We wouldn’t be able to understand earthquakes as clearly if the seismograph hadn't been invented. We also couldn’t be as prepared for them as we could be now.
