The 28th Amendment
The Second Amendment states “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, that right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”
This means that all citizens have to right to carry a weapon to defend their lives, property and ultimately their liberty.

The New Amendment
We are proposing the 28th Amendment to change the current 2nd Amendment. We want to raise the legal age to buy any type of gun to 21 years of age, and add more requirments. These include a proper backround check before any sale, a restriction on multiple purchases, and no involvment in any prior gun related incidents. You still must have a gun certification and before that is given the requriements must be checked.
WHY?
Why?
This new amendment needs to be adopted becuase gun violence in recent years has spiked and their has been nothing done to stop it. People continue to use guns for reasons no human should ever, so our amendment would decrease the violence by making it harder to purchase a gun.

The devasting 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech University left 32 dead and ended with the shooter committing suicide due to his actions. At the time of the shooting, this was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

On November 22, 1963 our 35th president, John F. Kennedy was sadly shot and assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding in the presidental motorcade.

On May 6, 2023 in Allen, Texas at a busy outdoor shopping center there was a high profile mass shooting leaving 8 killed, 7 wounded, and finally the gun man killed by the police. This is the 22nd mass killing in the country.
