Frankenstein's Monster Body Map

The JAM Squad

Brain

Brain

The thoughts that occupy the monster's mind the most are his thoughts how he wishes to be accepted by humans and to not be alone. The monster says this to Victor, "You must create a female for me with whom I can live in the interchange of those sympathies necessary for my being."(Ch.17) Here the Monster is consumed by his need for a companion and is threatening Victor to make him one. Since the Monster was able to communicate his thoughts and feelings have revolved around the cottagers and Victor.

Eyes

Eyes

The monster sees himself as an outcast and an ugly hideous creature, but also caring and intelligent. Shelley writes this, "monster! Ugly wretch! You wish to eat me and tear me to peices. You are an ogre."(Ch.16) Here William is yelling at the monster who has his hands around his about to kill him. He calls the monster everything that he sees himself as on the outside.

Mouth

Mouth

The monster would say to someone that he is caring and generally gentle unless provoked and all he wants in life is to not be alone, to have someone to talk to. Shelley writes, "I lay on my straw, but I could not sleep. I thought of the occurences of the day. What chiefly struck me was the gentle manners of these people, and I longed to join them, but dared not."(Ch.12) Here the monster is talking about how he wishes to be with the cottagers. Although he could easily walk over to them and interact with them he does not because he knows that they will drive him off in fear.

Neck

Neck

The creature would most likely consider Victor as well as society in general to be his biggest "pain in the neck". Shelley writes, "Inflamed by pain, I vowed eternal hatred and vengeance to all mankind" (ch. 16). The creature feels as through no matter what he does in life, mankind will always react negatively to his existence therefore, he will always be plagued by the fact that no one will ever accept him.

Shoulders

Shoulders

The burden that the monster carries is the fact that he won't be accepted by society due to his appearance. Shelley writes, "This was then the reward of my benevolence! I had saved a human being from destruction, and as a recompense I now writhed under the miserable pain of a wound which shattered the flesh and bone". This proves that no matter what good things he tries to do, he will always be judged harshly due to his appearance.

Heart

Heart

The thing that the creature loves and cherishes the most is his own life. Shelley writes, "Have I not suffered enough, that you seek to increase my misery? Life, although it may only be an accumulation of anguish, is dear to me, and I will defend it". Although he has suffered through a lot since he has been brought to life, he still values it over everything and is willing to do whatever it takes to preserve it.

Arms

Arms

What idea does the monster push away?

Although the monster hates how the world sees him, he doesn't view himself in a negative capacity. He believes in who he is, and simply doesn't want a part in humanity. As Shelley writes, “I persuaded myself that when they should become acquainted with my admiration of their virtues, they would compassionate me, and overlook my personal deformity. Could they turn from their door one, however monstrous, who solicited their compassion and friendship?”(Ch. 15) The monster has given up on humanities kindness and decided to go down his own path.

Stomach

What does the creature hunger for?

Stomach

Throughout the book, the monster longs for a connection with someone. He feels constantly singled out by his looks, and how he was created. As Shelly writes, "I am malicious because I am miserable. Am I not shunned and hated by all mankind? You, my creator, would tear me to pieces and triumph; remember that, and tell my why I should pity a man who pities more than me?"(Ch.21). The monster dreads the idea of loneliness and being infinitely shunned from society.

Legs

Legs

Achilles Heel

The monster weakness is his physical appearance. He really believes this is what keeps people from treating him right.
