-The largest cities in California are located within this region.

-The climate is mild as cool ocean breezes come in from the ocean.

-Most mountain ranges run north to south.

-The Klamath and Cascade Range are in Northern California.

-Mt. Whitney, the state's highest peak, is located in the Sierra Nevada range.

-The Coast Ranges follow the state's coast from the Oregon border to Southern California.

-Northern mountains get a lot of rain and snow. The melting snow is an important source of water in the state.

-The largest trees in the world reside in the mountain region-The Sequoias and Redwoods.

- The Central Valley is at the center of California. It is over 400 miles long and is one of the world's largest valleys.

-Most of the Central Valley is farmland. It has rich soil and a long growing season.

-Each year, the region grows about half of the fruits, grains, and vegetables produced in the nation.

-This area gets little rainfall in the summer, so a system of dams, pipes, pumps, and ditches brings water to fields and orchards.

-What can be found in this region?

-WILDLIFE-Duck, quail, pheasant, beaver

-VEGETATION- Oak, California prairie

-LAND USE- Cities, towns, manufacturing, farming, dairy farming, ranching

-A desert is a region that gets little rain.

-California's deserts lie to the east of the mountain ranges in the state.

-Tall peaks from the mountains block rainclouds as they blow east from the ocean, therefore the desert region gets little rainfall.

-The Mojave Desert is the largest in California and is home to Death Valley. Death Valley has the lowest land below sea level in the US-It sits at 282 ft below sea level.
