Freshman Tour Edition
The Arch
Modeled after the Georgia state seal, the 160 year old arch is one of the most visited sites of the University of Georgia. It is located on North Campus, and was initially built to separate what is now downtown Athens from the campus. The Arch symbolizes the past of the university, and crossing under it represents you stepping into the future. Any student that Crosses under it before graduating is said to be cursed and won't be able to graduate from UGA.
Herty Field
Herty field was the original football field, and is now a place where students lay out to relax and study or where organizations hold outdoor venue events.
Sanford Stadium
“It’s Saturday in Athens,” is what you’ll hear almost every weekend of the fall semester. Sanford Stadium, home of the Georgia football team, where you see oceans of red and black and the craziest Georgia fans. Also, at the beginning of the year, you’ll even get to walk on it (shoes off of course).
MLC
The Zell Miller Learning Center, also known as the MLC, has become a vital resource for all students. Not only is the facility home to a range of classes, but there is also a well-known study area where you can grab a cup of joe on groggy mornings, from Jittery Joe’s cafe.
Tate Student Center
Want to network without having to go out of your way? Well, Tate is the place to be. With five floors of anything a student needs, Tate is the central location where many networking events are held. You can find religious gatherings on select nights, occasionally free movies, and it even has its own mini food court.
Ramsey
If you’re trying to avoid the freshman fifteen, Ramsey has a ton of resources you can use. This gym contains an olympic sized swimming pool, basketball courts, weight lifting rooms, and any other thing you can think of to help keep you in shape. You can even hire a personal trainer or attend select classes such as yoga and cycling.
Need extra help on your class assignments? Then, Milledge Hall is where you need to be. This building is centered around providing students with the academic assistance they need in order to be outstanding in their classes. The tutoring program matches students up with a peer tutor, who has successfully completed the course. Milledge is definitely your go-to for tutoring services.
The Main Library holds all the information you need, if you ever have to gather resources for a research assignment or simply just want to gain more knowledge. The library offers materials that relate to the Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities.
The Chapel Bell was originally rang for the beginning and end of classes, emergencies, and any religious services, but now it is a tradition to ring the bell as a way to signify any academic accomplishments or athletic victories.
