Iran's Justice System
Iran's recent Problems
Why am I intrested in this topic?
My topic is about the recent death that is happening since 2019 by the government in Iran. People are peacefully protesting and the government is killing people and sentencing them to death penatly to get them to stop protesting. They do this to show power over poeple. The government has always wrongfully sentemced people to death and tourtured prisoners but recently it has gotten worse and I want to teach our class about this big issue. I have a personal connection to the topic since I am an Iranina and i have familt in Iran that are constantly in danger from the cops so wannted to inform people in this topic.
Barlow, Rebecca, and Shahram Akbarzadeh. Human Rights and
Agents of Change in Iran: Towards a Theory of Change. Palgrave Macmillan, 2018.
This journal is written by a Professor of International Law, and he is writing to inform upcoming lawyers and current lawyers that are in the criminal justice system and inform them about his experiences in this ground-breaking victim-driven program that significantly altered his perspective of how victims who have experienced irreparable loss interpret the inner meaning of justice before international criminal tribunals at The Hague. This journal was created to examine this victim-driven initiative and its effects on views on authority, global accountability, and the discourse of healing and reconciliation following major crimes. The author is biased towards the justice system and thinks that how they handle issues is wrong; this source will help show someone’s perspective that works directly with the government in the criminal justice system and how they feel about it this source is also helpful to show that the system has always been rigged and it is not the recent events that have been causing the government to act like this towards their own people.
Taebloo, F. S., & Naini, M. T. (2016). Observing the accused person interrogation rights in
pretrial period in iran's law and the international charter of human rights. Journal of Politics and Law, 9(9), 126-135. doi:https://doi.org/10.5539/jpl.v9n9p126
This journal is written by a professor that is in University of Isfahan which majored in politics and law, and he wrote this journal to inform those who are interested in the criminal justice system and want to learn about the way Iran treats people in the pretrial period. This journal explains the process of pretrial and trial period of a person being accused of a crime and also explains the laws that Iranians break when interrogating and abusing the person to be able to charge the person accused. The author is biased towards how the government treat the person accused and believes that it’s wrong, so they write this to inform others of this problem which also helps me because this source helps with proving that the Iranian government has always taken away people's rights and relates to my topic by showing that this has caused families much sadness with the recent problems happening which made the government have more power over people.
“Iran: Authorities Covering up Their Crimes of Child Killings by
Coercing Families into Silence.” Amnesty International, 13 Dec. 2022, https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2022/12/iran-authorities-covering-up-their-crimes-of-child-killings-by-coercing-families-into-silence/.
The website Amnesty International they write articles about situations where human rights have been taken away and my article is about how Iranian government and police are killing young kids and covering up their crimes by forcing families into silence and, they wrote this to let their readers know about the injustice happening in Iran; the readers of this websites include people who want to help and support those who are not being treated right with their legal rights, they can always donate money and make their voices heard through this website. This article is basically informing us about how the police is killing wrongfully killing kids to get people to stop the protesting and to be able to show power and strength over people. This source is definitely biased, and they are taking people's side in this issue by using works like unlawful killing and inconceivable cruelty, but all of this will be useful to show how bad the situation is in Iran.
“Executed Iranian Protester Tortured to Make False Confession.” Iran HRM, 13
May 2021, https://iran-hrm.com/2020/08/06/executed-iranian-protester-tortured-to-make-false-confession/.
This website is created to tell the stories of people who were wrongfully killed, abused and interrogated so the audience and purpose of this is to reach the government of other countries and people that work in higher up government systems and to tell them about this injustice towards Iranian people, so they don’t support the Iranian government and force them to stop this crucial act toward people. This article tells a story of a man that was tortured to confessing a crime he didn’t commit, and his family was forced into silence they also ended up killing the man that never confess to the kill and not enough sources were found to accuse him of such crime; this story helps experience of a man that went through the trauma and torture of the Iranian police. This article was not biased it only used facts and quotes from the family to write this story which is helpful for my research because this is based off of one person's experience and the trauma that one of many families faced it also helps that this article goes in depth of the bad experience they faced to get people to really understand how bad the situation is and how much people need help.
“At Least 58 Iranian Children Reportedly Killed since Anti-Regime
Protests Began.” The Guardian, Guardian News and Media, 20 Nov. 2022, https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2022/nov/20/iran-protests-children-killed-reports-mahsa-amini.
This website is aiming to reach political people and the government of all over the world to make them hear about the mass killings done in Iran by the government and police, so they wrote this article to tell them about all the children that have been taken and wrongfully killed due to the protest happening. This article is making pinpoints about major number of children being killed that is turning into a large number every day across Iran. This is not biased and uses fact and quotes from people to write this article; this article is very helpful for my research because it gives a statical toll of the numbers of children being killed which is good evidence for the wrongfully killing because what could little children do that would be worth a death penalty.
“Iran: Stop Sentencing Peaceful Protesters to Death, Say UN
Experts.” OHCHR, 11 Nov. 2022, https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2022/11/iran-stop-sentencing-peaceful-protesters-death-say-un-experts.
This Last source is similar some of my other sources with the audience because it wants to reach people in the government system in all over the world but the purpose of this is to show that there is a country that is standing up for what is right and to show that people help Iranian get give people their rights to peacefully live. This article includes the deaths that occurred and because of the many wrongful kills the UN expert decided to step up and talk to the Iranian authorities. This source is not biased it uses fact and quotes from things that were said by the UN expert to Iran; this source will be helpful to show that there are people out there that are willing to help the people that need it the most right now.
