BROCHURES:

  • To advertise a company.
  • One sheet of paper or multiple sheets.
  • Produced on a computer (then printed out)
  • Can include a flyer, a pamphlet or a leaflet.

NEWSLETTER:

  • Often produced by companies
  • Inside a newspaper or a magazine

WEBSITES:

  • Are also used to do advertisement
  • Software, Hardware and programmers are used.
  • Better for the environment
  • Use of Hotspot
  • Sound and animations can be added.

Multimedia Presentation:

  • Make use of animation, videos,sounds.
  • Interesting
  • Produced using a software package
  • They use also a multimedia projector

Paper-based presentations:

  • Is produced in a hard copy format
  • There is no need to go to the Venue to see the presentation
  • Can be printed out in Braille

Music Scores:

  • Can be done by computer systems
  • Original tracks can be modified
  • Music notes are corrected by the software

Cartoons:

  • Animations can be produced using computer hardware and software
  • Draws can be scanned by the computer
  • A way to transmit or give a message

Mobile Phones:

  • They communicate by using towers (inside many cells)
  • The towers allow the transmission of data through the mobile phone network.
  • Satellite technology is used

Internet Telephony:

  • Voice internet Protocol (VoIP) ---> Method used to talk to people using the Internet.
  • Web cam can be used
  • Problems: Quality and Sound quality - Security.

Business Card:

  • The user connects to a determined website, and then, he chooses a template.
  • Then, the user keys in the data
  • The card is printed out
  • Can be handed out to people as a type of personal advertisement

Company letterhead:

  • They project a corporate image, like a logo.
  • They are printed out in high-quality paper (using a laser printer).
  • Flyers or brochures can use this logo (to represent the company)
  • Can make the company appear larger than it is (it gives credibility).

Surveys

  • Used to find out information about the buying habits of the people.
  • Handed out to people or posted on websites.
  • They have to be scanned using OMR or OCR (no need to check each answer).

Adress List

  • Computers, tablets and mobile phones are used to store info or data.
  • Helps people to have the data organized.
  • It's easier to search information.
  • If it's synchronized people can change the data from one system and the other devices will be actualized.

Club and Society Records

  • Clubs and society usually keep records of their memberships.
  • A simple data base can hold this information
  • Easier to check on memberships suscriptions and send out reminders.

Record Keeping

  • Compiter system used for record keeping: ex. A Bookshop
  • This keeps files of the books in stock and their customers base.

Advantages:

  • Easier to contact customers
  • Less office space is required
  • Easier and quicker to find details

School Reports

  • Computers are also used to keep data on the academic performance of the students at school (database).
  • It's helpful to see how well the students performed over the years.

Advantages:

  • Easier than writing a report for each student at the end of the year.
  • They can be sent out to the parents automatically.

Measurement applications

  • Use of sensors and electronic hardware (like microprocessors)
  • Sensors are constantly taking data
  • This data is usually in an analogue form.
  • The microprocessor reviews the data from the sensor

warns if the signal is outside the given parameters.

WEATHER STATION:

  • Usually set up automatically, picking up the data from the environmental
  • There are different types sensors to measure
  • The data gathered 24/7 can be used to predict the weather
  • Rainfall
  • Temperature
  • Air pressure
  • Humidity
  • Wind speed

MEASURING A PATIEN'S VITAL SIGNS IN A HOSPITAL:

  • Computers are used to measure the key signs of a patient in a hospital
  • Sensors read the key vital signs (pulse rate, heart rate, blood preassure, etc.)
  • The computer compares the data from the sensor with the values that were stored previously by the nurse/doctor

MEASURING POLLUTION IN A RIVER:

  • The sensors are placed in different positions (so that the pollution comparison can be made)
  • The data is converted into digital using an ADC and is sent to the computer
