A study of the correlation between Depression and Fast Food.,
Introduction
According to the World Heath Organization "one of the biggest burdens on society is an unexpected one: depression"
Depression is a mental illness that affects the way a person feels, thinks, and acts. However, what most people do not realize is that this condition is also partly triggered by the type of food people eat, namely fast food.
Ingredient Found in Fast Food Items
That Most Affects Depression
Glycemic Index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrate containing foods that raise your blood sugar. These include:
- Foods that are rich in refined grains (white flour) and added sugar
- Store bought muffins, cakes, cookies, croissants, donuts, and sugary juices and soda drinks
Overconsumption of added sugars and refined starches are associated with a greater risk of depression and can result in an increased risk factor for inflammation and cardiovascular disease linked to the development of depression and can lead to insulin rsistance, also "linked to cogitive deficits similar to those found in people with major depression"
