A qualitative approach

Task 4

RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

  • What is it like to manage artists in the creative and cultural industries?
  • Or if you are a self-managed artist, what is it like to manage your own career?
  • Are agile management strategies used within the creative and cultural industries?
  • Can agile methodologies be used for managing artists within the creative and cultural industries?

Task 5

This project employed an innovative approach by putting a number of different analytical fields into mutual dialogue.

Task 6

Methods

Task 7

Strategies were used to address the potential pitfalls of qualitative research methods.

Task 8

The research was conducted independently of my involvement in the creative and cultural industries as an artist manager.

Task 9

I have maintained the independence of my role as an academic researcher in a way that is in line with the following principles:

  • Academic researchers should be public intellectuals … ‘Independent’ enquiry is an enquiry in which the outcomes are not pre-determined.
  • Academic researchers should have the arrogance of their expertise.
  • Academic researchers must be advocates - of knowledge. (Williamson et. al., 2011: 471)
