A genetic disorder caused by an extra- partial or full- copy of chromosome 21.
Trisomy 21: about 95% of cases. Contains three copies of chromosome 21 instead of the normal 2.
Mosaic Down Syndrome: only some of the cells contain an extra copy of chromosome 21.
Translocation Down Syndrome: The normal 2 chromosomes, however a portion of chromosome 21 connects to another chromosome before or at conception.
Some features are easily identified while others are not present in all cases.
