Bill Bowerman was a Track couch at University of Oregon who created a business with his former player named Phil Knight. They founded Nike on January 25, 1964. They wanted to make track shoes that had good traction and to feel comfortable to run in.

Tiger Shoe Sample
This shoe was created in Japan by Onitsuka and was sent to the U.S. January 1964. The shoe was a sample for Bill Bowerman to come up with his own shoes.

Moon Shoes
1972
This shoe was the first shoe that Bowerman made. Bill Bowerman created the shoes sole in a waffle iron thinking that the design would work for traction. He came up with the idea while eating breakfast. They were given to runners participating in the 1972 Olympics trial.

It was the first running shoe with waffle outsoles in 1974. It was an experiment for the waffle iron.

Nike shoes did change over time and improved by the way they looked. They went from being running track shoes to becoming shoes you can do anything in. They changed from having Waffle out-soles to having different designs and the texture of the shoes changed. Nike shoes became more comfortable to wear over time.
