Finding Mate/Basic info

  • During rut season elk bulls try to find a mate. Elk use many ways to atract mates but elks use five main ways to attrack femals.

  • The Elk is apart of the deer family and is about five feet tall not including antlers

  • The Elk male weighs between 700-1100 pounds and female 500-600

  • Elk mostly eat grasses, tree leaves, twigs, and shrubs.

  • Elk look like a reddsih brown in the summer and dark brown in the winter.

How elk care for young

Bull behavoirs

  • Usally the female elk care for the offspring by nursing and protecting them for the first year of there life.

  • There offspring live with them in there herd until they are old enough to leave and find a different hurd. Male elk barely care for there offspring.
  • Bulls often fight over mates and challenge them to a intense duel, usally the winner takes the mate.

  • Bulls also bugle which is a loud mating scream to attract females and assert dominance.
