The Alida

Like many of Savannah's riverfront hotels, the Alida lives in a converted warehouse and is named for Alida Harper Fowlkes, a beloved architectural preservationist. Its look is a pleasing meld of contemporary glass and steel, mid-century accents, and exposed brickwork - a nod to the past. Inside there are little extras like canapés and snacks every evening in the lobby bar and complimentary Champagne at the reception desk. Add to this a plum location, an alluring array of amenities, and a good-value room rate, and it's no wonder the hotel was quick to become a Savannah favorite.

Restaurants

Between all those poolside mojitos and dancing at Coachella, there are some seriously good spots to eat at as well. From the classic old haunts where Marilyn Monroe got her groove on, to the new, modern spots popping up all over downtown, Palm Springs is a culinary destination to be reckoned with.

Restaurants

The Olde Pink House

The outstanding Olde Pink House is unmistakably Southern, with its large columns and pink hues, and perch on the edge of a charming square. A tourist staple for anyone visiting Savannah for the first time, it's a restaurant that begs to be photographed. Within the restaurant proper, individual room hold quiet, candlelit, soft-spoken diners. Down below, Planters Tavern - with candlelight to lead the way and live music emanating from the piano -feels like a step back in time.

Cotton & Rye

Cotton & Rye is a contemporary American restaurant in a former bank - you can still see the door to the safe. Located in an up-and-coming neighborhood, it was one of the first dining establishments to open outside the tony historical district. The restaurant bakes its own bread, grinds its own meat, and sets wine pairings to all of it - the whole menu elevates Southern classics in new ways. If you want to see that elevation in action, make sure to order the stuffed Carolina trout

The Original Crab Shack

The Original Crab Shack sits on the backside of Tybee, but don't let appearances deceive you. You might even pass the alligator viewing area on the way into the restaurant, where tiki vibes and water views set the scene for a lowcountry boil.

Crystal Beer Parlour

Famous for being one of the first bars to serve alcohol following prohibition, the Crystal Beer Parlor continues its love of alcohol with over 80 beers, 26 of them on tap mostly from local breweries. Big burgers come on big plates loaded with multiple toppings and sides of large onion rings. There is no shame in using a fork and knife to tackle one of these beautiful burgers.

AJ's Dockside

Nestled on the coast of Tybee Island, A-J’s Dockside will be a treat for the seafood lovers. Shrimp, lobster, crab, you name it, A-J’s Dockside has it ready to serve while you hang on the quaint waterfront deck. This hidden gem is beachy casual, so feel free to grab a Watermelon Marg in your swimsuit coverup to kick off happy hour.

Nightlife

Savannah’s nightlife scene is booming and local establishments offer a variety of options for all ages and interests. Savannah has plenty of options when it comes to bars such as rooftop bars with incredible views of the city and local favorites include Circa 1875 Gastropub, Lulu’s Chocolate Bar (dishing up desserts and a full bar) and the romantic Planters Tavern in the basement of the Olde Pink House. River Street, along the Savannah River is popular after dark and many visitors stroll along the waterfront in search of their favorite music. Summer brings live jazz concerts, Dixieland and Big Band to Johnson Square.

Rocks on the Roof

The hip, indoor-outdoor rooftop Rocks on the Roof is the perfect vantage point from which to view the city while sipping signature drinks. Perched atop the trendy Bohemian Hotel, it boasts far-reaching views of downtown Savannah, River Street and the Savannah River. Indoor-outdoor space allows ample seating indoors if you wish to be in the middle of the action - or on a large patio - with a fire pit for chilly nights - if you prefer a quieter atmosphere. An extensive selection of wines, martinis and signature drinks complement a tapas-style menu for those who want a bite to eat. Live entertainment is part of the regular scene.

Rocks on the Roof

The Village Pub

One of the city's most popular live music venues, this Congress Street staple is unpolished and unpretentious, with a laid-back vibe and vaguely Gothic décor. The bartenders are cool and courteous and the place club draws a wide range of clientele from punk rock college students to tattooed hipster types and out of town visitors who come to view the eclectic groups performing here. The Jinx has played host to some of the hottest bands around since it first opened in 2003. Music ranges from rock, metal, country, alternative and hip hop. Open Monday - Saturday 4 p.m. - 3 a.m.

Speakeasies

Mata Hari's

Located in an alleyway just off River Street, it’s tucked away from plain view, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for the big wooden door at the bottom of the steps. Check with local hotels in the area to figure out the password and once you flip the switch and answer correctly, you’re transported back to the Roaring Twenties. If you’re looking for some entertainment, grab a ticket for their cabaret shows upon entry.

Planters Tavern

Located in a cellar underneath the highly regarded Olde Pink House restaurant, Planters Tavern stands alone as a great spot to grab a drink and enjoy live entertainment. The building itself--a late 18th-century Georgian mansion that was built as a residence and later housed Georgia's first bank--is steeped in history, and many of the original features remain, among them exposed brick walls and gorgeous fireplaces.

Speakeasies

The Distillery

It was a speakeasy in the Roaring 20s and while it's now a favorite with locals and visitors alike, the Distillery isn't really a distillery - it's popular bar. Frequented by beer drinkers with discerning palates, it's not the place to go for a cheap brew. If you're hooked on "ordinary" beer, you've come to the wrong place. While it proudly advertises on its walls that it doesn't serve some of the more popular brands (think Miller, Bud and Coors), it does offer some 100 craft beers. Among the rotating selection of the 21 beers on tap are Wild Heaven Let There Be Light, Sweetwater Georgia Brown Ale and Weyerbacher Insanity, to name a few. The Distillery also has a great selection of wine and cocktails, as well as tasty finger food, sandwiches, burgers, salads and more, making it the perfect late-night hangout.

Nightine Stroll

River Street is one of the most popular streets to wander in the city and is one of the hubs for Savannah’s nightlife. Located along the Savannah River just north of the historic district, you’ll find 9 blocks full of redbrick, historic architecture and plenty of restaurants, bars, and clubs.

If you’re looking for a bustling place to grab a drink after dinner, River Street’s pubs are always busy and many of them offer beautiful water views. From quaint brewpubs to busy clubs, you can find all types of establishments to enjoy at night. For a more relaxed night, take advantage of Savannah’s open-container policy and grab your drink to go for a beautiful stroll along the river.
